Autism Assistance Dog
I was desperately looking for an assistance dog programme provider, as a support for my daughter who has a diagnosis of ‘Autism Spectrum Disorder’. She finds every day life very difficult and I thought an assistance dog could provide a unique level of support, aid and comfort to her many problems. We had researched charities, but the waiting lists were too long and other companies did not suit our needs.
After searching the internet I came across K9S Pet Services. We contacted Richard and he was able to give us invaluable information and all options available, he was very transparent about the whole process. Fortunately, for us my daughter’s dog, Athena had all the traits and characteristics needed. She passed her first assessment to be accepted onto the K9S Assistance Dog programme; which eventually led to her successful qualifications in ‘Public Access’ and ‘Assistance Dog’ in May 2021.
Richard and Teresa are an absolutely fantastic and dedicated team. They supported us every step of the way. Richard has a vast knowledge of dog training and their behaviours, as well as the skills and patience required. His professional and calm manner enabled us to learn and apply all of the training to a very successful level.
More importantly, he was able to empower my daughter to become a proficient and competent handler, allowing Athena to perform her many tasks so effectively that they have been literally life saving!
Without Athena’s training from K9S Pet Services, I know my daughters quality of life would still be limited. Richard and Teresa have played a big part in making a difference and for that we will be forever grateful.
Athena will always remember Richard and recognises him even after months have passed and greets him with licks and love. Athena and her humans would highly recommend this amazing team and wish them every success with the invaluable service they provide.
